This freehand brush painting (or sumie) features a horse with a background of waves. The horses carry many meanings in the eastern world, in particular, freedom and success. The horse in this painting is placed in front of these waves that suggest a desirable world, where we are the master.
The title is a poem sentence that says “龍旗翻海浪，馹騎馳坤隅”, originally written in the Tang Dynasty for a great general, referring to a victorious scene where dragon flags are blown like waves in the ocean, and the chariot of victory roams the corners of the earth. The poem reinforces the painting, inferring the hidden meaning.
