Pine Ink vs. Oil Ink
- Pine ink stick uses burned pine wood in the making of the ink, the best pine ink comes from the Yellow Mountain; Oil ink stick uses oil from Jatropha curcas tree, rapeseed, flax seed and so on
- Pine ink is generally cheaper than the oil ink
- Each produces unique ink color: pine has no shine, whereas the oil has distinctive shine
- Each is used for different purposes or preferences
Option 1: 金不换
- This name means “money will not buy it”, a proper title for this very easy to use and affordable pine ink stick
- Size: around 2.4cm x 9.5cm x 1 cm, about 31g*
Option 2: 黄山松煙
- An upgraded pine ink stick from the Yellow Mountain
- Size: around 2.4cm x 9.5cm x 1 cm, about 31g*
Option 3: 唐墨
- An entry level oil ink stick
- around 2.4cm x 9.5cm x 1 cm, about 31g*
Option 4: 蘭煙
- An upgraded oil ink stick
- Size: around 11.5cm x 2 cm, about 65g*
*The traditional measurement is ink stick is by the ancient weight measurement. One unit is around 30g, which is why the weight is not exact. This amount of ink stick normally can produce around 500ml ink.
In addition, the patterns on the ink sticks may appear different from the images, which is because the modes need constant replacement, so the different batches of ink sticks could have different looking patterns, such as the drawings or calligraphy script, but the ink quality will be the same.
The liquid ink in our shop (brand name: 一得阁) is famous for its oil ink, though in the liquid form. Please note the ink sticks have to be used with proper ink stones. When using new ink sticks on ink stones, remember to be gentle!
