The red-belly golden pheasant is a rather unique bird in the oriental world. They are unique to China, and they have always been associated with prosperity, bravery, elegance and auspiciousness. Their name is “Jin Ji”, literally the chicken of brilliant brocade. They contain the five major colors that are significant in the Oriental world, while each is linked with a certain virtue.
The painting is created using the freehand painting style known as the Chinese painting (or Japanese sumie), over rice paper and then hand-mounted. This kind of painting captures the spirit of the animals vividly, the flow and the ambience of the world naturally follows.
